Role Overview

Under the supervision of the Manager – Institutional Programs, the Finance Analyst will support financial account management for research funding, primarily from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The role involves monitoring research projects, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines, investigating discrepancies, and liaising with sponsors and university staff.

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare and submit claims and complex financial statements to sponsors in multiple currencies.
2. Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies related to budgets, revenue, expenditures, and project financial statements.
3. Administer and process subgrants, monitor accounts receivable, and assist with financial negotiations.
4. Review funding terms, prepare journal entries, and ensure revenue recognition aligns with policies.
5. Identify system errors, develop training materials, and perform project closures and analyses.
6. Assess expenditure eligibility and participate in system testing as needed.

Qualifications

• Accounting designation, related undergraduate degree, or business/accounting diploma with current professional accounting enrollment.
• At least two years of financial experience in research administration preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• High accuracy and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of research policies and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
