Overview

We are currently looking for someone to join our Finance Team as a co-op student. This is a full-time role based out of our Waterloo corporate office.

This role is an integral part of the Finance team and involves participating in basic accounting, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other administrative duties, all while ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies. We are a leader in the Home and Community Healthcare sector, employing over 3,500 workers across Ontario. You will have a wide variety of tasks and work with great finance leaders!

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, experience with MS Excel, and basic bookkeeping knowledge. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and a passion for learning, growth, and problem-solving.

This is a full-time contract position. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

What the Role Involves

  1. Receiving vendor invoices and reviewing them for accuracy and completeness
  2. Obtaining necessary approvals according to company policies
  3. Reconciling invoices with other systems as required, investigating variances to a resolution
  4. Recording and ensuring proper coding and allocation to the correct general ledger accounts
  5. Preparing payments for managers’ review and responding to branch and vendor inquiries
  6. Collaborating with other departments and branches within the organization
  7. Participating in problem-solving activities related to quality improvement and operational efficiency
  8. Following up on inquiries via voicemail and email, utilizing strong customer service skills
  9. Other duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • University or college degree/diploma in Accounting, Business, or Finance
  • 0-2 years’ experience in payroll, accounting, or human resources
  • Working knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping
  • Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
  • Keen attention to detail, ability to prioritize, multitasking, and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn and grow, and to be an integral team member
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in the healthcare field or homecare sector is an asset
  • Clear background check
