Overview

Field Technologist (Survey)/Drone Pilot

Sureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, involved in civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction.

Job Type: Full Time, Seasonal

Schedule: 10 + Hours/day, Schedule as per Operational Requirements, OT after 8hr/day or 44hr/week

Location: Edmonton, AB & Area

Essential: Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule, ability to work in physically demanding conditions

Requirements:

  • Transport Canada RPAS Advanced (Drone) license required
  • Personal Reliable Vehicle
  • CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract, Valid Driver’s License (non GDL)

Pre-employment:

  • Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

Field Technologist (Survey) Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Survey Manager, the job of the Field Technologist is to conduct topographical and construction surveys, providing accurate survey data for quantities, engineering, mapmaking, land evaluation, construction and other purposes.

  • Conduct construction survey layout with major and minor construction projects including subdivisions, aggregate pits, mining and roadways.
  • Completing topographical surveys for as-builts and quantities.
  • Assist in preparation of as-built drawings and calculating earthwork quantities using Civil 3D.
  • Provide proper care and maintenance of survey gear, company truck and other equipment.
  • Planning, directing and conducting construction surveys. Establishing and marking work limits. Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

Field Technologist (Survey) Qualifications:

  • Completion of the Civil Engineering Technology or Geomatics Program at an accredited institution.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Trimble tsc3/tsc7.

Drone Pilot Responsibilities/Qualifications:

  • Transport Canada RPAS Advanced (Drone) license required.
  • Operate and manually pilot drones in diverse environments.
  • Coordinate effectively with on-site and remote teams.
  • Verify and maintain drones airworthiness through safety inspections.
  • Assist with deployment, setup, and real-time operational tasks.
