Field Technician, Materials Engineering (Summer Student)

Location – Kingston, ON
Your role within the team
Assist and perform on-site concrete testing for Temperature, Air, Slump and casting of compressive strength cylinders as per OPSS and CCIL standards.
Carry out sampling of various constructions materials for laboratory testing, Monitor placement of various constructions materials and workmanship.
Prepare and collect field samples from various projects for laboratory testing and analysis. Perform compaction testing of asphalt and Soils using Nuclear Densometer as per project specification. Assist in carrying out asphalt and concrete coring for thickness and material composition investigation. Monitor paving operations with respect to verification of material paved, Tack coat application, temperatures, lift thickness, surface deficiencies and reporting of any concerns to the client while on site.
Ensure accuracy of test data and write quality control testing reports.
Maintain all company equipment in good condition.
Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and complete various tasks within set timeframes.
Liaison with all discipline team members, sub-contractors, clients and agencies.

The ideal candidate
A post-secondary diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology /Technician or equivalent.
Must have a valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Able to work on weekends, nights, shift work, additional hours as required.
Ability to work well in a team environment. Good written and verbal communication skills along with strong organizational & time management skills.
Knowledge of construction materials and ability to read construction specifications and drawings is an asset.
Holding of CCIL/ACI concrete testing certification is an asset.
