Job summary

Cogent Communications is seeking a Telecommunications Field Technician to perform network field operations, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in the assigned region. You will ensure high network availability, manage circuit turn-ups, and maintain precise documentation across data centers, POPs, hubs, and customer sites.

The role requires hands-on experience with optical and wave transport, IP networks, and field test equipment, plus a proactive approach to project completion.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of telecom network experience, with DWDM or IP networks.
• Must be a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen and near the service area.
• Experience with telecom test equipment: OPM/OLS, OTDR, OSA, and Ethernet/IP test sets.
• Solid knowledge of fiber optics, CWDM/DWDM, and AC/DC power environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills; able to coordinate with vendors.

Responsibilities

• Network field operations within the assigned region to maintain health and SLA.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot equipment across data centers and POPs.
• Lead circuit turn-ups, testing, and activation of new customer circuits.
• Work with power systems and battery backups as part of infrastructure.
• Provide vendor oversight for inside-plant fiber deployments.
• Document networks and customer connectivity accurately.
