Construction Field Technician
Internship – COOP – Fall 2025

We are offering an 8-month internship (September to April) for Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, Environmental, and Mining Engineering students at our Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories. This is a Fly-In-Fly-Out rotational role.
The schedule involves a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation, including working weekends and holidays, with 12-hour shifts. Flights are provided from Yellowknife or Edmonton, and accommodation and meals are included.
About the role
Reporting to the Project Engineer or Advisor, the Construction Field Technician student will be a key member of the Diavik Project delivery team.
The student will assist with survey and quality control functions for reclamation work:
Survey responsibilities include quantity surveys, layout, and supervision of earthworks.
Quality control tasks involve materials testing, crush production QC, and earthworks QC.
Coordinate with Construction, Engineering, and Operations teams to monitor daily activities according to design specifications.
Participate in site safety and quality control/survey processes.
Utilize PITRAM for equipment tracking, managing stoppages and delays for effective reconciliation.
What you’ll bring
You must be enrolled in an accredited engineering COOP program and possess these qualities:
At least 2 years completed in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, Environmental, or Mining Engineering.
Highly self-motivated and organized.
Excellent communication skills for liaising with engineers, contractors, and management.
Valid driver’s license; experience with heavy machinery operation is preferred.
Experience on a mine site is an asset but not required.
Experience with GPS survey and material testing is an asset.
Knowledge of drafting software like Civil 3D or AutoCAD is an asset.
* To qualify, you must be returning to school after the internship and have the right to work in Canada.

Where you will be working
The Diavik Diamond Mine, located on East Island in Lac de Gras, Northwest Territories, is accessible by plane from Yellowknife. The site is on a 20 km² island, 300 km northeast of Yellowknife, 100 km north of the tree line, and 210 km south of the Arctic Circle.
Our diamonds are produced to the highest safety and quality standards. Safety is our top priority, and our goal is for all workers to return home safely.
The schedule includes 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotations, 12-hour shifts, with flights and accommodations covered. Departure points include Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Yellowknife.
