Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Field Technician based in Vaughan, Ontario to support municipal flow monitoring and infrastructure programs across York Region and surrounding areas. This role involves a two-person field crew performing maintenance, installing and maintaining flow monitoring equipment, and collecting data for wastewater and stormwater projects.

This is a full-time, field-based position with a 40-hour work week and optional paid overtime.

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma is required.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence with clean driving record.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on field work in outdoor environments.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with tools, equipment and instrumentation.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings and site plans.

Responsibilities

  • Work under supervision of a Project Manager or senior technical staff.
  • Travel regularly to municipal infrastructure sites.
  • Perform tasks using established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Assist with installation, operation, inspection and maintenance of flow monitoring equipment.
  • Conduct field activities including flow meter installations and rain gauge calibrations.
  • Support data quality assurance, analysis and reporting of flow monitoring data.
  • Document field measurements and operational data.
  • Maintain field records, logs and inventory.
  • Identify and resolve equipment issues to meet project standards.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, ArcGIS and related data tools.
  • Coordinate daily field activities based on work orders and priorities.
  • Follow health, safety, and company procedures.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Field Technician for a new position to be based out of our Vaughan, Ontario office and mapped to the Markham, Ontario office. This position will support municipal flow monitoring and infrastructure monitoring programs throughout York Region, Toronto, Hamilton, and surrounding areas.

This position is expected to start as soon as possible.

This is a full-time, field-based position involving a 40-hour work week with optional paid overtime. Successful candidates will work as part of a two-person field crew responsible for planning and performing scheduled field maintenance activities, installing and maintaining flow monitoring equipment, and supporting data collection programs for municipal infrastructure projects related to wastewater and stormwater systems.

Responsibilities
  • Work under supervision of a Project Manager or senior technical staff.
  • Travel regularly to municipal infrastructure sites.
  • Perform assigned tasks using established procedures, standard techniques, and safety protocols.
  • Assist with the installation, operation, inspection, calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of flow monitoring equipment.
  • Conduct field activities, including flow meter installations and maintenance, and rain gauge calibrations.
  • Support flow monitoring data quality assurance, analysis, and reporting activities.
  • Collect, verify, and document field equipment measurements and operational data.
  • Maintain accurate field records, inspection and maintenance logs, equipment inventories, and project documentation.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving equipment maintenance and repair issues to verify compliance with project requirements and operational standards.
  • Utilize industry-standard software including Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and other data management tools.
  • Coordinate daily field activities based on scheduled work orders and project priorities.
  • Follow established health and safety procedures, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Adhere to AECOM's health, safety, and quality requirements at all times.
Minimum Requirements
  • High-school diploma.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to perform hands-on field work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with tools, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small field crew and follow established procedures and safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College certificate or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Engineering Technology, GIS, or related discipline.
  • Experience performing field data collection, environmental monitoring, utility inspections, or municipal infrastructure work.
  • Experience using ArcGIS or similar GIS software for maps, figures, and drawings.
  • Understanding of wastewater collection systems, stormwater systems, and flow monitoring practices.
  • Experience working with monitoring instrumentation, sensors, or data loggers.
  • Familiarity with confined space entry, traffic control, working at heights, or similar health and safety programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, and site plans.
Additional Information
  • Relocation is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

To support this commitment, all newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $54000 to $60000.
