Job summary

DS Consultants Ltd. is seeking a Field Technician to join our Vaughan team. The role includes field and laboratory geotechnical testing, site inspections, and data collection on construction projects.

Applicants should have 2+ years of field experience in soil/asphalt testing, familiarity with MTO/ASTM/OPSS standards, and a valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a vehicle. Strong reporting, safety practices, and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years field experience in soil and asphalt compaction, concrete testing, subgrade evaluation.
• Familiar with MTO, ASTM and OPSS test procedures and standards; geotechnical software knowledge.
• Willingness to work in the field; strong health and safety practices; valid Ontario license and vehicle access.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical services in field and laboratory environments.
• Site inspections and material testing (soil, asphalt, concrete) using a nuclear gauge.
• Carry out field and laboratory testing and prepare reports for construction projects.
• Assist with data collection, project supervision, and report writing.
• Ensure workplace health and safety practices at all times.

DS Consultants Ltd. is currently seeking a Field Technician to join our team in the Vaughan office. Responsibilities:

• Provide technical services in a field, and laboratory environment
• Duties can include but not limited to site inspections, material testing (soil, asphalt, concrete) using a nuclear gauge, material sampling, data collection and general geotechnical work supervision
• Providing technical assistance in materials related projects and tasks, including carrying out field and laboratory testing of various materials on construction sites, in-situ density testing and testing of concrete and asphalt materials
• Working on all assignments on projects of low to high complexity
• Soil/rock identification and assist junior staff to prepare field reports
• Completing analysis of information and report preparation
• Ensuring workplace health and safety practices are followed at all times

Qualifications:

• Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technologist Diploma or Civil Engineering Degree
• CCIL Certifications in asphalt and concrete is an asset
• Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist (C.Tech/C.E.T.), Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.), Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible for Engineer –in- Training (E.I.T.) status – preferred

• Minimum two (2) years of field experience in soil and asphalt compaction, concrete testing, subgrade evaluation
• Proficiency with common geotechnical and other software; Familiar with Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) test procedure and requirements, and local municipal standards and specifications
• Good understanding of geotechnical principles
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical concepts, materials and asphalt
• Must be mobile and willing to work on field
• Strong workplace health and safety practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage
• Ability able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs as required

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong report writing skills and verbal communication in English are essential
• You demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and to proactively respond to time-sensitive issues
• An Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
