Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a hard-working and motivated Field Technician who can assist materials engineers in evaluating materials and developing machinery and processes to manufacture materials for use in products that meet specialized design and performance specifications. This role will be part of our Materials Technology Team at our St. Catherines, ON location.

You will join a team of enthusiastic and dedicated technicians while operating under the supervision and mentorship of our civil and geotechnical engineering professionals.

This is an entry-level contract position, with intermediate and senior roles available based on your experience and technical certifications within this service line. Full-time positions are based on availability and seasonal demands.

Responsibilities

  1. Solutions Analysis: Assess compliance with established standards and protocols for routine inquiries.
  2. Data Collection and Analysis: Extract relevant data from information provided by others, and input it into spreadsheets or standard formats.
  3. Engineering Drawings: Carry out activities under the guidance of senior colleagues to create engineering drawings for communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.
  4. Plant and Machinery Design and Installation: Install plant and machinery to the agreed design under close supervision to meet operational and regulatory standards.
  5. Personal Capability Building: Develop and maintain excellent process or technical skills through assessment, development planning, training, and coaching.
  6. Testing: Perform a broad range of tests requiring detailed assessment, measurement, and judgment.
  7. Operational Compliance: Develop knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory codes, adhering to standards to ensure quality work.
  8. Product and Solution Development: Support others by carrying out simple product development or engineering tasks, such as data gathering or document preparation, following established procedures.
  9. Technical Troubleshooting: Perform basic troubleshooting tasks, such as identifying technical issues with equipment and assisting in diagnostics.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Enrollment in, or graduation from, a civil, geotechnical, or engineering program. Other relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and testing procedures.
  • Access to a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license for site inspections.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Ability to lift and carry 23.7 kg (50 lbs.).
  • Willingness to work a 40-hour week with possible overtime up to 13 hours per day.
  • Willingness to travel up to 200 km per day using a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Hourly compensation at market rates.
