Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Science-related education is a strong asset.
  • 1-3 years' experience in a related industry preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, sort, and label client samples for analysis.
  • Conduct basic testing and measurements in the field as required.
  • Compile data, analyze results, and prepare reports for clients.

Job description

  • Witness and observe how samples are taken and direct the vessel personnel when necessary
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples
  • Deliver and ship samples to the Laboratory
  • Observe sampling of other commodities following established protocols
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split and screen samples as required
  • Archive, return or dispose of client samples as per work sheet instructions
  • Log client samples into the system and prepare sample labels
  • Conduct basic testing and basic measurements in the field
  • Work from sketches, detailed specifications and verbal instructions
  • Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations
  • Carries out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of his / her supervisor
  • Interpret and evaluate all results
  • Compiles data, analyses and prepares reports
  • May be asked to work in other SGS areas when needed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Post-Secondary Education (degree or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry) is a strong asset.
  • 1 – 3 years’ experience in a related industry a strong asset but not required
  • Good hand-eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment
  • Must have a valid driver's License (Class 5 Minimum) or equivalent from another province.
  • Must be comfortable with occasional travel and a flexible schedule.
  • Must be comfortable with working outdoors.
  • Candidate must have the ability to use various types of computer software (word, excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
