Job description

Job Purpose

Lead and train technicians in performing jobs on natural gas engines and compressors. Promote positive attitudes and ensure safety and efficiency. Coordinate with the Regional Field Service Manager for job planning, including parts, tools, technicians, and equipment. Communicate daily with customers and managers regarding progress and any delays. Promote safe work practices, ensure compliance with JSA and HSE requirements, and complete detailed service reports for review and signing by customers. Keep management informed of job progression daily.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Field Technician - Journeyman is responsible for:

  • Performing tasks independently according to WPI and OEM standards.
  • Developing other technicians.
  • Reading schematics, blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications.
  • Determining the best procedures for safe and effective job completion.
  • Performing Waukesha Service Bulletin upgrades as provided by the factory.
  • Inspecting own work at each step to ensure tolerances and OEM specifications are met.
  • Demonstrating excellent productivity.
  • Completing all required paperwork, including service reports, PM sheets, JSEA, inspection forms, startup and deferred startup forms, failure assessments, and compressor inspection forms.
  • Maintaining safety and high standards of housekeeping on-site and in the service truck.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Reviewing LO/TO procedures with the crew for each job.
  • Owning basic tooling, including wrenches, socket sets, impacts, screwdrivers, hammers, and a multimeter.
  • Assisting customers with issues as requested.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working on industrial engines (natural gas/diesel).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Waukesha certified technician (GET, ESM, and VGF, VHP, or AT classes).
  • Valid driver’s license with a record compliant with insurance requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of OEM equipment and troubleshooting skills for natural gas engines and compressors.
  • Experience with tooling such as laser alignment, borescopes, emissions analyzers, and Hytorc.
  • Strong mechanical principles and math skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Proficiency in electrical diagnostics.
  • Computer skills including Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of electronic controls like PLCs, Murphy panels, Altronic, and ESM.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools.
  • Experience operating truck cranes.
