Job description

Hörmann Barrie is seeking a bilingual (French/English) Field Service Technician to provide hands-on technical support to customers and internal teams. This role includes troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, supporting product development, and participating in customer training and trade shows. You will work closely with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and R&D to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and product performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide bilingual (French/English) technical support to customers and internal teams via phone, email, or on-site visits.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical/electronic control issues (PLCs, relay logic, frequency inverters).
  • Support field operations, including installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Assist with warranty resolution following company processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and corrective/preventive action planning.
  • Participate in product testing, prototyping, and development activities.
  • Build and maintain trade show displays; support marketing projects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support the development of technical manuals and training materials.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Follow Occupational Health & Safety Act Section 28.
  • Participate in near-miss and hazard reporting.
  • Understand and adhere to workplace violence and harassment policies (Bill 168).
  • Attend safety training and exercise the right to refuse unsafe work.

Qualifications

  • Language: Fluent in both French and English (spoken and written) – required.
  • Education: Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technician Diploma or related certification.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in field service, sales, or customer support.
    • Strong knowledge of control systems, relay logic, PLCs, and mechanical systems.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other technical software.
    • Ability to work independently, travel as needed, and manage multiple priorities.
