Responsibilities:
The Canadian Tobacco Research Foundation (CTRF) has an open position to contribute to all aspects of an established applied and basic research program focused on flue-cured tobacco production in Southwestern Ontario. The successful candidate will jointly collaborate with our research team to design and conduct experiments aimed at improving plant traits through advanced breeding techniques and plant protection activities. In the area of Plant breeding, the candidate will assist in developing and implementing breeding strategies to enhance crop performance and resilience, conducting hands-on work in both field and laboratory settings, and maintaining breeding materials and databases. For Plant protection, the candidate will contribute to the Plant Diagnostic Laboratory at the CTRF, monitor plant health, and assist in the management of disease resistance in breeding populations. It is the goal that this position will be integrated within both programs to achieve common breeding and plant protection objectives. It is expected that the candidate will stay current with the latest advancements in plant breeding and plant protection and participate in relevant conferences and workshops.
