Job description

Our Health, Safety & Environment group delivers a unified and proactive service which includes leadership, guidance, and mentoring to create a world-class safety culture, and is seeking a Safety Advisor to join our team, based in the General Toronto Area (GTA) or Thunder Bay, ON.

Reporting to the Regional Supervisor, this position provides field-level support to supervisors, foremen, and workers, and offers leadership and coordination of day-to-day safety requirements of assigned projects. This role is crucial in ensuring Valard's safety culture is established and adhered to in the field.

Please Note: this is a field-based position with 90% of the time spent on site across Canada. It is a T4 Hourly Employee position, with a starting salary range of $35/hr - $42/hr + Overtime, depending on experience.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Be a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors, following the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP).
  • Communicate, coach, and assist field staff to meet safety expectations.
  • Participate and assist in incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Attend regular safety meetings to review issues, trends, and upcoming conditions or events, ensuring safety obligations are met and communicated.
  • Review daily tailboards to address hazards and implement mitigation processes; provide feedback for compliance.
  • Conduct observations, inspections, emergency drills, and review findings through safety meetings and postings.
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings, document minutes, and prepare safety reports.
  • Support supervisors and foremen in developing and reviewing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) at work sites.
  • Regularly review applicable legislation and standards, informing Project Managers of relevant changes.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a field safety role; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • National Construction Safety Officer Certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to provide a driver's abstract.
  • Successful completion of pre-access drug & alcohol checks as required.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
  • CRSP, CRST, or other recognized Health & Safety certification.
  • Familiarity with provincial legislation.
  • Experience in root cause investigations.

This position involves travel and overnight stays away from home, estimated up to 90% of the work schedule.
