Job description

We are seeking to hire a full-time, permanent Field Operations Technician based in Kingston or Lindsay, ON. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the hands-on day-to-day integration, repair, and maintenance of the Xplore network. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team, with excellent organizational and communication skills. This role acts as a key in-field technical contact for support groups in network construction, repair, maintenance, and support.

This position requires basic knowledge of IP Networking, working knowledge of fixed wireless and fibre optic network deployments, and a basic understanding of telecom construction and tower rigging. The role involves on-call support and off-hours maintenance work, with some overnight travel. Flexibility in work schedule is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Strong problem-solving, organizational, verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
  2. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, interacting across the organization.
  3. Manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  4. Knowledge of IP networking, including IP addressing and basic routing.
  5. Understanding of telecom construction, including fibre optic and copper cabling, racking, grounding, and safety protocols.
  6. Knowledge of AC and DC power systems and conversions.
  7. Experience with RF, fibre, and power connectors.
  8. Experience in constructing and maintaining communication tower sites.
  9. Strong troubleshooting skills.
  10. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. 1-year related work experience or a relevant degree/diploma.
  2. Valid Driver’s License.
  3. Experience with fixed wireless and fibre optic deployments.
  4. Experience handling and configuring network equipment (e.g., Ericsson, Ceragon, Cisco).
  5. Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent (asset).
  6. Experience with fibre troubleshooting tools (OTDR, Power Meters).
  7. Understanding of industry safety standards (CSA, Occupational Health & Safety).
  8. Knowledge of networking technologies (TCP/IP, routers, switches, DHCP).
  9. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and travel as needed.
  10. Ability to work long days and weekends when required.
