Job description

Field Manager – Special Projects

Are you a hands-on leader with a passion for delivering high-quality landscape projects and developing people? We’re looking for a seasoned Field Manager – Special Projects to lead our specialized landscape installation and maintenance crews. This is a key leadership role that bridges field operations with management strategy — ideal for someone with a strong technical background and a proven ability to coach, motivate, and drive results.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of field technicians and crew leads through complex and high-visibility landscape projects.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute project workflows while ensuring adherence to budget, timelines, safety, and quality standards.
  • Monitor and report on job profitability (P&L), resource allocation, and operational performance.
  • Ensure all equipment is inspected, maintained, and operating efficiently; complete minor repairs and coordinate major servicing.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the field team, clients, and management — ensuring proactive communication and issue resolution.
  • Conduct site inspections, lead safety meetings, and maintain proper documentation (site reports, timecards, checklists, toolbox talks).
  • Represent the company professionally in the field, ensuring crews uphold high standards of conduct, appearance, and customer service.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in the landscape or horticulture industry, including 2+ years in a supervisory or crew leadership role.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple crews or job sites, including scheduling, budgeting, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong working knowledge of landscape installation, plant identification, fertilization, irrigation systems, and seasonal care practices.
  • Experience reading and executing landscape drawings and scopes of work; quoting and tendering experience a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with job tracking tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, payroll or reporting apps).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, coach team members, build morale, and uphold company values in the field.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience operating and maintaining landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of vertical green infrastructure (e.g., green walls) is an asset.
  • Certifications such as Red Seal, Pesticide Applicator License, or Certified Landscape Technician are strong assets.
  • Valid Heavy Trailer Endorsement or Class 3 license required; OFA 1 certification an asset.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • 80% field-based / 20% office and planning.
  • Must be in strong physical condition — able to lift 50+ lbs, stand or walk for extended periods, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Requires flexibility, a proactive mindset, and a high level of personal accountability.

  • Competitive Salary: Starting base wage of $80,000–$100,000, depending on experience
  • Paid Time Off:
    • 3 weeks of vacation (prorated for the first year)

  • Company Truck: Provided for work use (equivalent value: $8,500/year)
  • Health Coverage: Extended Health, Dental, and Vision benefits after 90 days
