The Field Manager, Cross-Border Banking plays an essential role in the actualization of a 2 – 3 year cross-border marketing and business plan and in increasing the portfolio base of U.S. and Canadian cross-border customers alongside primary account management teams in BMO US/BBNA. The FM is expected to apply well developed consultative sales and business development principles, practices and techniques, to assist in negotiations and structuring; to conduct underwriting of standalone overdraft line needs of Canadian cross-border entities that are not yet managed by primary AM team from US Commercial; and, to provide recommendations in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and in compliance with Bank Policies & Procedures.

Accountabilities:

The Field Manager is accountable to ensure the effective marketing of BMO’s cross-border banking capabilities and will remain alert to market conditions and activities of competitors, and identifying opportunities and reporting early competitive warning signs to the Head, Cross-Border Lending and Field Management team. Other accountabilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Business Delivery through Operational Effectiveness
  • Develop and expand profitable commercial / upper mid market client relationships with borrowing needs in excess of $20MM ensuring the U.S. customer segment with Canadian Financial Services needs are dealt with in a holistic manner.
  • Track, monitor and report progress to the Head, Cross-Border Lending and Field Management, ensuring results remain in line with Cross-Border plan objectives.
  • Underwrite standalone ODL needs of CCB northbound Cross-Border TPS clients domiciled in Canada and not yet managed by a primary deal team from US Commercial
  • Provide subject matter expertise and first point of contact for bank partners and associated internal and external Canadian and U.S. associates who have direct exposure to entities with Canadian operations requiring Canadian and/ or U.S. domiciled financial services and advice, ensuring a holistic client experience.
  • Effectively position the Canadian Financial Services offering to existing U.S. clients and prospects.

Risk Management

  • Protect the Bank’s assets and maintain portfolio quality by adhering to Commercial lending processes, policies & procedures, legal and ethical requirements and regulations, audit requirements, and established risk guidelines.
  • Ensure all business is in conformity with Bank Policies and prescribed guidelines
  • Follow bank-approved processes during deal structuring and credit underwriting that ensure accurate comprehensive investigation; analysis and due diligence is conducted in the documentation of acceptable transactions sourced for adjudication under the Commercial Lending Process.
  • Document and follow-up on any discrepancies to procedures, with significant operational risk, and escalate as required
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of products, processes, and relevant legal, regulatory and technology requirements through audits and quality checks, to ensure decisions are adequately documented, and clearly communicated.
  • Exercise individually held Commercial unilateral discretionary limits as well as any held prescribed approval discretionary limits (i.e. overdrafts, credit applications), ensuring credit decisions and recommendations are in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and in compliance with the Bank’s policies and related procedures (e.g. Financing Guidelines, Enterprise Operating Procedures, Lending Directives, Commercial Lending Policy etc.) completing analysis; confirming security valuations; completing and approving credit applications for authorizations under Commercial Lending Policy.
  • Adhere to Know Your Client Rules and Bank Policies & Procedures for the prevention of loss due to fraud, counterfeiting, money laundering, or defalcation; identify and report suspicious and other reportable transactions or patterns of activity that are suspected to be related to money laundering.

Qualifications:

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

Requirements:

  • Commercial/Corporate/Investment banking experience
  • Credit Qualified with commercial limits

  • MBA, CFA or Accounting designation and/or related experience in Commercial lending

Salary :

$69,000.00 - $129,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
