Reporting to the Manager, Telecoms, the Field Inspector will support our design offerings and coordinate the overhead and underground construction for utility and telecom infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Perform site visits to collect and record measurements, pictures, and field information.
- Meet customers on-site to discuss electrical and telecommunications requirements.
- Provide markups, pictures, and concepts/sketches to the engineer-of-record for designs.
- Prepare site visit reports communicating relevant design and safety information.
- Attend pre-construction meetings to coordinate construction tasks.
- Conduct progress and final inspections for safety and design conformity.
- Communicate construction issues clearly to design staff, contractors, and clients.
- Provide ongoing technical support, customer care, and quality assurance on-site.
- Inspect constructed works and providing markups, pictures, and other documentation to the engineer-of-record for completion review.
- Provide infield design support as needed/requested by the design team.
- Complete design modifications and assessments to be communicated to stakeholders, design, and approval bodies as needed.
- Provide technical expertise and feedback on design.
- Supervise and manage construction quality to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements.
- Travel to out-of-town project locations to support field operations and project site requirements.
- Provide site support and liaise with subcontractors, design team, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Assist field staff in resolving construction and design-related conflicts.
- Provide support during construction by providing design guidance and changes where necessary.
- Mentor and support junior design staff.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Have a strong technical background in electric utility and telecom construction in both underground and aerial installations.
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and pride in their work.
- Demonstrate from previous experience their ability to learn and adapt to changing environments.
- Demonstrated self-motivation and drive for improvement.
- Class 5 driver’s license.
A few qualifications that would help you succeed:
- Previous knowledge of and experience with utility and telecom design standards.
- Previous utility construction management experience.
- Great interpersonal skills with the ability to develop business relationships conducted in a professional manner.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
