Job summary

Brandt in Winnipeg is seeking a Field Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling to diagnose, service, and repair heavy equipment for customers and dealers. You will maintain safety, quality, and adherence to budgets while supporting apprentices and sharing knowledge with the team.

The role requires strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and propane systems, good diagnostic abilities, and hands-on experience with industrial equipment.

Qualifications

• Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and propane systems.
• Diagnostic skills for battery and engine powered material handling equipment.
• Experience with hand tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic tools.
• Knowledge of industrial equipment including lifting/rigging and maintenance.
• Ability to align equipment with precision tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work within budgets and approvals from the Service Manager.
• Maintain productivity, efficiency, gross margin, and 98% first-time quality.
• Record all work for customer and warranty records.
• Maintain current product knowledge for location equipment.
• Keep work area clean and perform work neatly and safely.
• Follow OH&S rules and disposal procedures for hazardous waste.
• Perform service tasks as assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager/Foreman.
• Participate in service training programs to develop skills.
• Mentor apprentices and oversee department tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.
• Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Use drills, grinders, air compressors, and hand/power tools for maintenance.
• Prepare reports and work orders upon job completion.
