Job description

We are looking for a Field Engineer to join our team, responsible for on-site construction review and ensuring structural work is delivered accurately and efficiently. This role involves regular visits to job sites to verify construction against design intent, focusing on concrete, wood frame, and mass timber projects. The Field Engineer will report directly to their Studio Director and work closely with design and project teams to maintain alignment throughout the construction process. The ideal candidate is a thorough and detail-oriented, a strong communicator, and a collaborative team player who is comfortable working with contractors, consultants, and clients in dynamic, fast-paced environments. This role is based in Vancouver, BC.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field reviews and site inspections to monitor construction progress and confirm compliance with structural design intent, drawings, and specifications.
  • Travel to project sites primarily located in the Lower Mainland.
  • Prepare site visit reports with clear documentation of observations and instructions.
  • Flag potential design or construction issues and work with the internal team to develop solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable building codes, safety regulations, and internal standards.
  • Support the Studio team in updating drawings and documents based on site conditions and revisions.
  • Respond to RFIs and provide technical clarification as needed; triaging questions from sites before escalating to others.
  • Attend meetings and liaise with site personnel, contractors, architects, and other consultants to resolve issues.

How you fit into the team:

  • Reports to their Studio Director.
  • Collaborate with Engineers and Project Managers to bridge the gap between design and construction.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in either Structural Engineering, Structural Technology or as Field Engineer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering or Civil Technology Diploma.
  • P.Eng is considered an asset; candidates with equivalent experience will also be considered as a Field Technician.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices, structural systems, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills for working in a dynamic, site-based environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; construction software experience is an asset (Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam etc.).
  • Previous experience working with general contractors is an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and willingness to travel to job sites.

Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 CAD
