Job summary

WSP is seeking an Archaeology professional to join our Nanaimo-based team on Vancouver Island. You will conduct field assessments, surveys, and monitoring for infrastructure and community projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and Indigenous Nations.

The role supports regulatory compliance and documentation across BC. The position offers opportunities to mentor junior staff, contribute to field planning, and grow expertise in heritage resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or related discipline; Master's considered an asset.
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout BC, including remote areas.
• Experience in archaeological consulting in British Columbia, at an intermediate level.
• Knowledge of BC Heritage Conservation Act and permitting processes.
• Field program leadership or support experience in survey, testing, mitigation, and monitoring.
• Strong technical writing for reports and regulatory documentation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological field assessments, surveys, monitoring, and excavations for infrastructure and development projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate heritage considerations into planning.
• Support compliance with provincial and federal heritage legislation and permits.
• Engage with Indigenous Nations, clients, regulators, and stakeholders throughout projects.
• Manage projects with the project team including the Director and Coordinator.
• Prepare technical reports, site records, and permit applications.
• Contribute to field program planning, health and safety, and quality management.
• Mentor junior team members and share knowledge to grow the team’s expertise.
