Job summary

EMS-Tech Inc. seeks a Field Advisor to support fabrication, installation, commissioning and maintenance of bulk material handling equipment. The role requires interpreting mechanical, structural, and electrical drawings and extensive domestic and international travel.

Ideal candidates bring five years in technical roles, strong communication, and ability to work independently or with a team in diverse industrial environments. Ontario or British Columbia bases are welcomed.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Engineering Technology or equivalent industry qualifications.
  • Minimum five years in technical roles, preferably bulk material handling or heavy equipment.
  • Experience with contractors, fabricators, and suppliers on technical projects.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and structural drawings; electrical drawings an asset.
  • Knowledge of welding principles and practices.
  • Strong report writing for inspections/evaluations.
  • Experience with Excel; drafting software such as AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving; able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with contractors on fabrication, erection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Interpret mechanical, structural, and electrical drawings accurately.
  • Apply welding principles and procedures in practice.
  • Provide technical input to suppliers/contractors per project engineer/manager.
  • Conduct inspections and write detailed technical reports.
  • Assist in problem-solving during installation, commissioning, and operation.
  • Interact with customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Visit suppliers, engineering offices, and facilities independently.
  • Participate in off-site installation and commissioning activities.
  • Adhere to safety protocols during travel and on-site operations.

Role & Responsibilities

Are you ready to take your technical expertise on the road?

We’re looking for a skilled and experienced Field Advisor to join our team, supporting the fabrication, installation, commissioning and maintenance of equipment in the bulk material handling industry.

In this dynamic role, you’ll leverage your technical engineering expertise and ability to interpret mechanical, structural, and electrical drawings to conduct detailed onsite inspections, ensuring equipment meets all specified requirements.

Ideal candidates will have strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. This position requires extensive domestic and international travel and involves working in diverse industrial environments. We’re open to candidates based in British Columbia or Ontario who are ready to take their expertise into the field.

Here are some of the things you’ll be working on:
  • Collaborate with contractors/fabricators on the fabrication, erection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of new and used equipment.
  • Interpret mechanical, structural, and electrical drawings accurately.
  • Understand and apply basic welding principles and procedures.
  • Provide technical input and review to suppliers and contractors as directed by the project engineer or project manager.
  • Conduct inspections and write detailed technical reports on component conditions and activities.
  • Assist in technical problem-solving during installation, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Interact effectively with customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Visit suppliers, engineering offices, and industrial facilities independently.
  • Participate in off-site installation and commissioning activities.
  • Adhere to safety protocols during travel and on-site operations.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Engineering Technology, Trades experience or equivalent industry qualifications.
  • Minimum five years of experience in technical roles, preferably in the bulk material handling or heavy equipment manufacturing industry.
  • Proven ability to work with contractors, fabricators, and suppliers on technical projects.
  • Proficient in interpreting mechanical and structural drawings- ability to interpret electrical drawings is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of basic welding principles and practices.
  • Strong technical report writing skills for inspections and evaluations.
  • Experience working with Excel and Word; familiarity with drafting software such as AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the proven ability to document technical information clearly.
