Construction Field Technician
Internship – COOP – Fall 2025

We are offering an 8-month internship (September to April) for Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, Environmental, and Mining Engineering students at our Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories. This is a Fly-In-Fly-Out rotational role for our DDMI mine.
The schedule is a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation, including working weekends and holidays. The shifts are 12 hours daily. You will be flown in/out of the Diavik site from Yellowknife or Edmonton, with all accommodation and meals provided in camp.
About the role
Reporting to the Project Engineer or Advisor, the Construction Field Technician student will be a key part of the Diavik Project delivery team.
The Construction Field Tech COOP student will support survey and quality control functions for the site’s progressive reclamation work.
Survey responsibilities may include quantity surveys, layout, and supervision of large-scale earthworks.
Quality control functions may include materials testing, crush production stockpiling QC, and earthworks QC.
Coordinate with Construction, Engineering, and Operations teams to track and manage daily activities per design details and specifications.
Participate actively in site safety and quality control/survey processes.
Interface with equipment tracking using PITRAM, managing stoppages and delays for effective month-end reconciliation.
What you’ll bring
To be considered, you must be enrolled in an accredited engineering COOP program and possess the following qualities:
At least 2 years completed in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, Environmental, or Mining Engineering.
Highly self-motivated.
Excellent organizational and teamwork skills.
Strong communication skills to liaise with engineers, contractors, and management.
Valid driver’s license; experience operating heavy-duty trucks and machinery is preferred.
Mining site experience is an asset but not required.
Experience with GPS survey and material testing is an asset.
Knowledge of drafting software like Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or similar is an asset.
* To be eligible, you must return to school after the internship and have the right to work in Canada.

Where you will be working
The Diavik Diamond Mine, located on East Island in Lac de Gras, Northwest Territories, spans 20 km². It is 300 km northeast of Yellowknife, on an island in a remote lake, accessible by plane. All travel, accommodation, and meals are covered.
Our diamonds are of the highest quality, produced with safety and integrity as priorities. Our goal is to ensure all employees return home safely each roster.
The schedule involves 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, with 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. Flights are arranged from multiple Canadian cities.
