Qualifications

We are currently seeking a Fibre Optic Splicer Technician to join our operations in a permanent, full-time position in Canada and the United States.

The Fibre Optic Splicer Technician is involved in all facets of fibre splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.

As a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to travel across the Atlantic provinces. While on the road, we prioritize your comfort by providing daily per diem and accommodations paid for by the company.

This role requires a willingness to travel, work a minimum of 40 hours per week, and have a valid driver’s license and reasonable driver’s abstract.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Splicing Aerial and Buried Fibre Optic Networks;
  2. Testing and troubleshooting of Fibre Optic networks;
  3. Documenting and reporting on work completed;
  4. Maintaining project and safety documentation;
  5. Ensuring all work is clearly labelled.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Demonstrated ability to work at heights;
  2. Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination;
  3. Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, and isolation;
  4. Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere;
  5. Carry, raise, and climb a ladder;
  6. Carry, lift, and handle heavy equipment (manhole covers, cable reels);
  7. Self-disciplined, self-motivated, and organized.

Additional Requirements

  1. Valid driver’s license (Class DZ/Class 3), airbrakes or willing to obtain Airbrakes endorsement;
  2. Reasonable driver abstract;
  3. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required;
  4. Ability to travel (Company provides paid accommodations and a daily per-diem when travelling);
  5. The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check;
  6. The successful candidate must be authorized to work without visa sponsorship required.

Experience Required

  1. 3+ years with live circuit experience;
  2. Single Fibre Splicing and Mass Fusion Splicing of outside plant fibre networks;
  3. Experience using fibre optic testing tools such as Power meter, OTDR, and Live Fiber Detectors;
  4. Preference given to those with additional experience or FTTX / FTTH project experience;
  5. Working knowledge of the safe limits of approach in communication space.
