Job summary

ROHL Global Networks Inc. in Western Canada seeks experienced Fiber Splicer / Network Maintenance Technicians to support our 1,200 km fiber network and ongoing fiber construction projects.

You will perform splicing, testing, fault restoration across OSP and ISP, install and maintain optical transmission equipment, and participate in on-call rotations with travel to remote project sites.

Minimum 3 years of hands-on fiber experience and DC power systems knowledge preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting is preferred.
• Experience installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting optical transmission equipment.
• Practical experience with DC power systems, including rectifiers and batteries.
• Strong fiber optic test equipment knowledge: OTDRs, power meters, fault-locating tools.
• FTTH network design and documentation knowledge (KMZ/GIS) is a plus.
• Fiber splicing certification or related training is an asset.
• Electrical trade certification/license relevant to the jurisdiction is an asset.
• BICSI certification (RCDD/Technician/Installer) is an asset.
• Diploma or certificate in telecom, electrical, electronics, or related field is an asset.
• Valid Class 5.0 driver's license and willingness to travel to remote sites.
• On-call availability for emergency restoration.
• Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving; ability to work independently.
• Self-motivated and able to manage priorities across field and network environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical) on aerial, underground, and buried fiber.
• Test and certify fiber links using OTDR, power meters, and light sources; document results.
• Troubleshoot and restore fiber cuts and OSP faults, including after-hours response.
• Read FTTH/OSP design docs, splice diagrams, and route maps (KMZ/GIS).
• Perform underground utility locates and coordinate with municipalities.
• GPS data collection for network civil works.
• Install, configure, and maintain optical transmission equipment (OLT/ONT/DWDM).
• Terminate and test fiber patch panels and distribution frames.
• Support commissioning and acceptance testing for new equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot DC power plants, rectifiers, and batteries.
• Ensure power plant work complies with electrical codes and regulatory standards.

We are seeking experienced Fiber Splicer / Network Maintenance Technicians to support both our ongoing fiber construction projects and the operation and maintenance of our own 1,200 km fiber network, including our head office and remote points of presence (PoPs).

The Role

This hands-on role will support both outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) activities, with responsibilities including fiber splicing and testing, underground locates, optical equipment installation, network troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, and DC power plant maintenance.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the full physical layer of a fiber network—from supporting new fiber builds and project installations in the field, to maintaining, repairing, and optimizing our existing network infrastructure and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Outside Plant (OSP)

• Perform fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical) on aerial, underground, and buried fiber infrastructure
• Test and certify fiber links using OTDR, power meters, and light sources; interpret and document results
• Troubleshoot and restore fiber cuts and outside plant faults, including emergency/after-hours response
• Read and interpret FTTH/OSP design documentation, splice diagrams, and route maps (e.g., KMZ/GIS-based designs)
• Perform Underground Utility Locates
• Coordinate with locate services, contractors, and municipalities as required for civil work near the fiber network
• GPS data Collection for network civil works
• Install, configure, and maintain optical transmission equipment (OLT, ONT, DWDM/CWDM, media converters, etc.)
• Terminate and test fiber patch panels, distribution frames, and cross-connects
• Perform equipment rack installations, cable management, and labeling to company standards
• Support commissioning and acceptance testing for new equipment and network builds
• Maintain and troubleshoot DC power plants, rectifiers, and battery backup systems supporting network equipment
• Perform routine inspections, load testing, and preventive maintenance on power infrastructure
• Identify and safely resolve electrical faults within scope of certification/license
• Ensure power plant work complies with applicable electrical codes and regulatory standards

General

• Maintain accurate records of work performed, test results, and as-built documentation
• Follow all safety protocols for working at heights, confined spaces, live electrical systems, and traffic control
• Participate in an on-call rotation for network emergency response
• Collaborate with network engineering, planning, and security teams as needed
• Travel and long stays away from home on projects possible

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders/poles, and work in confined underground vaults
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

What You Bring

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting optical transmission equipment.
• Practical experience working with DC power systems, including rectifiers, batteries, and distribution systems.
• Strong working knowledge of fiber optic test equipment, including OTDRs, optical power meters, and fault-locating tools.
• Experience with FTTH network design and documentation, including KMZ and/or GIS-based tools, is considered an asset.
• Fiber optic splicing certification or recognized industry training is considered an asset.
• Electrical trade certification or license appropriate to the applicable jurisdiction is considered an asset.
• BICSI certification, such as RCDD, Technician, or Installer, is considered an asset.
• Diploma or certificate in telecommunications, electrical, electronics, or a related technical field is considered an asset.
• Valid Class 5.0 driver’s license with the ability and willingness to travel to remote sites and project locations as required.
