Job description

Our Telecommunications group is currently looking to add Fiber Optic Splicer to our growing team, based in Castor, AB. This position operates on a 10-days-on, 4-days-off rotation.

Reporting to the Foreman, you will be responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic cables to ensure seamless connectivity for our clients. You will work on various projects, including new installations, upgrades, and repairs, playing a crucial role in delivering reliable and high-speed internet and communication services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform fiber optic splicing, including single and mass fusion splicing.
  • Conduct testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks using OTDR and other testing equipment.
  • Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables in various environments, including underground and aerial installations.
  • Ensure all splicing activities are performed to industry standards and client specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including splicing logs, test results, and site documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • High School Diploma
  • Class 3 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract required; Q-endorsement or Class 1 license is considered an asset.
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Splicer, with a strong understanding of fiber optic splicing techniques and best practices.
  • Proficiency in using splicing and testing equipment, including fusion splicers and OTDR.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic cable types, connectors, and installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and splicing diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Certification in fiber optic splicing and testing (preferred).
