Position Information :
The Department is seeking a Farm Products Grading Inspector 1 to work in Wayne, Monroe, Seneca, or Ontario County. Responsibilities include performing inspections at Terminal Market and Shipping Point locations, determining and certifying physical characteristics of produce, and maintaining detailed notes and certificates. Additional duties involve conducting Food Safety USDA GAP Audits, Country of Origin Audits, Branding Law Enforcement inspections, monitoring controlled atmosphere apple storage rooms, and sampling for the Pesticide Data Program.
This position can be based from your home and requires travel within an assigned region. It offers autonomy over your schedule, the ability to work remotely, and outdoor work opportunities.
The role is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Travel Requirements :
Extensive travel is required. Candidates must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle. Occasional out-of-state overnight trips may be necessary for training.
Physical / Medical Requirements :
Your physical and medical condition will be evaluated to ensure you can perform the duties with or without accommodations. A medical examination is required prior to appointment, and periodic exams may be necessary.
Minimum qualifications include two years of full-time professional experience inspecting farm products for a state or federal agency, including sampling, grading, and certifying products. Alternatively, 60 college credits, including 18 in relevant fields such as agriculture, biology, or food science, can substitute for one year of experience.
