Job summary

Maternity Leave Contract

Under the direction of the Legal and Transitional Support Team Lead, the Transitional Support Counsellor will assist women as they establish violence-free lives in the community. This includes providing support and assistance with goal and safety planning, making referrals, liaising and coordinating with other community support agencies.

This is a maternity leave contract position and a great opportunity to build on your counselling experience.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with safety planning for women and their children.
  • Developing and maintaining contact with a network of community support agencies.
  • Working with women to develop transition plans that will identify the goals that a woman would like to achieve (both long and short term) and the steps she will need to take to achieve those goals.
  • Assisting women in carrying out their transition plan.
  • Providing supportive information and referrals to appropriate legal, housing, medical, education, employment and other community resources.
  • Completion of administrative tasks i.e. record keeping, reports, statistics etc.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education in the Social Service field or equivalent experience and specialized training
  • Knowledge of violence against women and children issues
  • Knowledge of housing issues
  • Knowledge of HIFIS, Coordinated Access and BNL considered an asset
  • Knowledge of family and criminal law issues
  • Ability to problem solve in innovative and creative ways
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and independently
  • Strong supportive counselling skills
  • Skills in the use of a personal computer for recording, correspondence and report writing
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license with insurance

Hours of Work:

  • 35 hours per week. Some evening work is required.
  • This position is based out of our Orangeville office, with occasional travel to our satellite offices in Bolton and Shelburne
  • Position is hybrid – office and home office, with at least 3 days on site
