SUMMARY

The Family Service Worker is responsible for working in a collaborative effort in providing direct services, support services, education, and documentation as required/needed for the program for children and families.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The Family Service Worker reports to the Early Head Start/Head Start Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Recruit eligible children/families to ensure continuous full enrollment.
2. Provide family assistance through support, guidance, and referrals by regular parent contact through home visits, center visits, phone calls, and letters.
3. Work in cooperation with the team to provide support services to the team’s families and develop parent activities.
4. Maintain and communicate accurate data and information.
5. Develop an understanding and awareness of community agencies/organizations that provide services to children and families, and participate in community service organizational meetings.
6. Work in cooperation to develop, plan, coordinate, and implement activities to meet the performance standards.
7. Organize meetings, workshops, and training for parents.
8. Must successfully complete approved performance standards required training.
9. Must comply with all approved performance standards rules, policies, and regulations.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

1. Bachelor’s degree required in Social Work, Human Services, Family Life Management, Sociology/Psychology or related field.
2. Working knowledge of Head Start practices, guidelines, and procedures.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Demonstrated experience working with community agencies, parents, and national and state organizations.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
3. Valid Driver’s License.
4. Michigan No-Fault Insurance in accordance with statutory requirements.
