About Our Opportunity :

The Family Counsellor at Vancouver Family Preservation and Reunification provides services primarily to families that promote healthier family functioning and linkages to community resources. This position provides a variety of parenting education support and counselling to children and families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Work Hours : Full-time 35 hours per week with flexible work hours.

Salary : GS 13 Step 1 $37.89 per hour

Location : 4103 Fraser Street at East King Edward Vancouver BC V5V 4E9- with the possibility of working Hybrid environment ; in-home work with families in Vancouver.

What do you need to succeed

Education Training Experience

• Masters degree in social work or clinical counselling or equivalent education and experience
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge Skills Abilities

• Knowledge of child welfare policies and practices
• Working knowledge of different parenting strategies and the ability to share these strategies with families
• In-depth knowledge of child development and child abuse dynamics
• An understanding of integrated case management / wrap-around service delivery
• An understanding of child and adolescent stages of development
• Superior crisis intervention skills
• Ability to work with families that may present multiple service needs related to poverty addictions violence child abuse or neglect and mental health issues
• Ability to provide counselling in a variety of approaches that best fits client needs either in the office in the community or in their homes
• Ability to support and encourage equity diversity and social justice in the workplace
• Knowledge of computer operating systems i.e. Microsoft Office 365 Excel SharePoint MS Teams

Additional Requirements

• Class 5 Drivers License and personal vehicle
• Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
• Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
