Job summary

The Family Physician will be the most responsible provider for a client panel at All Nations Healing House, Williams Lake, BC, and will collaborate within a team-based environment that supports Western and Traditional Wellness approaches to client health and wellness.

A minimum panel size is typically expected to reach 650 per 1.0 FTE by year 3, to be confirmed in the clinical service contract, with emphasis on culturally informed care and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Active medical license in good standing with CPSBC.
• Formal training in Cultural Safety & Humility or willingness to undertake training.
• Experience working with First Nations communities and providing culturally safe care.
• Valid driving license.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary care in a culturally safe, team-based setting that supports Western and Traditional Wellness approaches.
• Collaborate with family physicians, nurse practitioners and Traditional Healers to deliver holistic care.

Physician Master Agreement Full Scope range placement of $290,842 - $363,552 subject to whether scope of services includes facility-based coverage. Additional Rural Retention Program Premium of 12.32%. Compensation is scaled to Full Time Equivalent. Additional incentives may apply subject to eligibility.

FNPCI INITIATIVE

The First Nations-led Primary Care Initiative (FNPCI) aims to improve access to primary health-care services for First Nations people across BC in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home. The FNPCI is part of the province’s primary care strategy, which is integrating team-based care in communities throughout B.C. and changing the way primary care is delivered with the creation of primary care networks in partnership with the Regional Health Authorities.

In order to meet the health and wellness needs of First Nations people, it is very important that primary care be culturally informed where First Nations ways of knowing and being are woven into services. One of the FNPCI’s main objectives is to develop new First Nations Primary Health Care Centres in rural and urban locations across the province. The centres will provide access to quality primary health care services for First Nations people and their families. The aim is for clients to feel safe, welcomed, valued, respected, and heard when they access care services at one of these centres.

About The Centre

The All Nations Healing House provides culturally safe and trauma-informed primary health care for unattached First Nations and Indigenous people and their families. The Centre serves the needs of the First Nation and Indigenous communities in the Williams Lake area and the 15 communities of the Secwépemc, Tsilhqot’in, and Dakelh Dené Nations. The Centre operates Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory Holidays) during regular business hours.

Indigenous ways of knowing and being are the foundation of the All Nations Healing House. They include Elders, Traditional Healers and other Indigenous care providers as core members of the health-care team who work in close collaboration with family doctors, nurse practitioners and other providers to provide holistic health and wellness services. Services offered include full scope primary care provisions by family physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses as well as Traditional Wellness, Mental Health, Wellness Navigation. In coming years, we also intend to expand services with guidance from the Nations we serve.

About The Role

The Family Physician will be the most responsible provider for a client panel, and is expected to collaborate within a team-based environment that supports the practice of Western and Traditional Wellness approaches to client health and wellness. A minimum panel size is typically expected to reach 650 per 1.0 FTE by year 3, to be confirmed in the clinical service contract.

Responsibilities

The Family Physician (FP) will be responsible for practicing with cultural humility, to provide primary care in a culturally safe, team-based environment that recognizes the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the client (and family) to provide whole person care, in compliance with policies and procedures of acceptable BC health and wellness regulations and standards.

About You

• You are passionate about supporting First Nations individuals and families on their health and wellness journeys;
• You have an active practicing license in good standing with the College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC);
• You have training in Cultural Safety & Humility or are willing to take this training;
• Ideally you have experience working with First Nations people and communities and providing culturally safe care;
• Current valid driving license
