Job summary

Health Match BC is seeking a physician to work with WSANEC communities, partnering with four W’SANEC Health Directors to support comprehensive, accountability-driven primary care in Indigenous settings.

The role will begin at Tsawout First Nation and transition to the WSANEC clinic, using a hub-and-spoke model to serve four communities and collaborate with local services, MHSU, and Emergency. A relational, culturally safe approach is essential.

Role and Facility Information

This position will work in partnership with the four W’SANEC Health Directors and their respective communities. The health directors advocates for their communities and are developing a plan to implement comprehensive accountability measures, oversight and support for the general practitioner. This position will be part of a larger on-reserve team comprised of Nurse Practitioners, Primary Care Nurses, Mental Health and Addictions Counsellors, Indigenous Wellness Supports. This team is part of a larger Saanich Peninsula Primary Care Network with additional resources – pharmacist, MH Clinicians, Social Workers.

The position will start at Tsawout First Nation and will transition to the WSANEC clinic (Address: 1210 Totem Ln, North Saanich, BC V8L 5S4) when ready. Utilizing a hub and spoke model, providers will provide services in the other three W’SANEC communities.

Preferred experience

Experience with First Nations communities including: demonstrated commitment to Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racist practice in health care, Trauma informed care, Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and Indigenous ways of understanding health and wellness, a relational approach to health care provision and a strong desire to engage with and learn from Indigenous patients, families, and community members about their needs and how best to serve them.

After hours expectation

Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) for patients, including:

• Initiation, follow-up and stabilization for OAT starts;
• Work collaboratively with MHSU, other primary care providers, the Saanich Peninsula Emergency Department, and community services to monitor clients’ clinical status and response to treatment.
