BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS)

BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS), as part of the provincial mental health services continuum, provides a diverse range of specialized, 'one-of-a-kind' tertiary mental health and substance use services to adults across the province. These include services located at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and six regional clinics, the Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health & Addiction, and Heartwood Centre for Women. In addition to delivering these clinical services, BCMHSUS provides provincial leadership for system-wide improvement through its work in health promotion, illness prevention, knowledge exchange, research, and academic teaching.

We are seeking a Family Practitioner (FP) for the Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) team. FACT is a newly established service delivery model intended for clients with enhanced care needs involved in the criminal justice system. The team is a multi-disciplinary healthcare team providing holistic and comprehensive services to meet client needs. Based in Surrey, the team will support specific clients living in the community.

The FP will be a vital member of the healthcare team, working alongside other health professionals to provide quality care and support clients in living active lives as they reintegrate into the community. This model offers an opportunity to grow expertise as a Primary Care Practitioner within a supportive environment from day one, with guidance from leaders and colleagues across disciplines.

The work is engaging and challenging. Experience working with patients with psychiatric illnesses, substance use disorders, and personality difficulties is advantageous. Candidates should be eligible for provisional or full licensure with CPSBC. Certification with the College of Family Physicians or equivalent is mandatory. Experience in Correctional Health or additional certifications are assets.
