Job description

The Galiano Health Care Center is seeking a locum Family Physician to serve a complex rural community. The physician will work in the clinic, supported by MOAs, with 20-minute patient appointments. The role includes being the Emergency walk-in physician if needed. The first morning is reserved for orientation with MOAs, including a tour, narcotic count, and clinic overview. The last afternoon provides administrative time. The physician will also provide evening and overnight on-call duties on designated dates.

Clinic Description

One 0.5 FTE Physician, supported by a 1-4 day/week Home & Community Care Nurse. Facilities include 2 exam rooms, 1 Emergency Room, 2 offices, and 2 MOAs.

Local Resources

A phlebotomist is available on Thursdays for 4 hours. There is a Mental Health & Addictions counselor (employed by VIHA) available up to 2 days/week, serving Galiano and Salt Spring. Casual rentals include 2 RMTs and a physiotherapist. A dentist visits weekly.

Emergency Framework

Services include ambulance, volunteer First Responders, an Emergency Treatment Room, with urgent transfers by water taxi or helicopter.

Call Expectations

Rotating on-call via the MOCAP Program, with one weeknight overnight on call from 1700-0800 (date TBA). Locums must use their own cell phones; pagers are not used.

Additional remuneration may be available per the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including a Fee Premium of 10.99%. These amounts are current as of August 2024 and may change.
