Job description

Locum coverage is required for a busy family practice providing primary care and urgent episodic care at the Pender Island Health Centre. More info.

In this position, you will join one other family physician and a nurse practitioner in a well-equipped clinic with an EMR. The clinic is part of a larger health centre offering community nurses, public health, lab services, optometry, dentistry, physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care, crisis and mental health counseling, and community volunteer programs.

Flexible clinic hours and workdays can be established to suit your practice model. On-call responsibilities are shared 1:4 with colleagues on Mayne and Galiano Islands.

Additional remuneration may be available under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including (subject to change):

  • Fee Premium: 10.71%

As of December 2024, the Rural GP Locum Program offers $850/day for up to 38 days per year for locum coverage.

Community Information

Pender Island, part of the Southern Gulf Islands, lies between Vancouver and Victoria, near Vancouver Island. It consists of North and South Pender, connected by a bridge. The island has a diverse population of around 2,500 residents, including retirees, young families, part-time residents, and summer tourists.

The community offers a vibrant social scene with activities like choir, theatre, and outdoor pursuits such as golf, sailing, diving, hiking, and gardening, all in a sunny Mediterranean-style climate.

Additional Information

Overhead: Covered by the clinic at no cost to the physician.

Hours: 9 am - 5 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, with 1:4 after-hours on-call.

Remuneration: Alternative Payment Program Contract Level 2, with shared on-call under MOCAP (pro-rated, shared with Gulf Islands).

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (mandatory)
