The Gabriola Medical Clinic, located on the unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation on Gabriola Island, is an award-winning, community-owned primary care facility seeking family doctors to join our team of physicians and one Nurse Practitioner.
We provide primary and urgent care for Gabriola Island, working collaboratively in the same building with mental health RN, community social worker, and home and community care RN. This setup facilitates accessible discussions, either by phone or in person, to ensure optimal patient care. Dr. Erin Cusack shares, "With so much support from great administrative staff and other professionals, I am able to devote my time to what matters most — the patient."
Supported by nearly 5,000 residents, we received the 2018 Rural BC Community Award for our innovative and collaborative healthcare approach. Our team has also earned the 2022 BC Achievement Award and the 2022 Above and Beyond Award for exceptional service. We are passionate about teaching and have partnered with the University of British Columbia to host medical students for over 10 years.
We host visiting specialists in plastic surgery, cardiology, psychiatry, and general surgery. Emergency services include BCEHS, Air Ambulance, and the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department, working collaboratively with physicians on challenging cases. Dr. Tracey Thorne notes, "Our successes are team-based, and our losses are shared amongst us, making the challenges of rural practice easier to handle."

Monday to Wednesday: 9 am - 4 pm; Thursday: 10 am - 4 pm; Friday: 9 am - 3 pm. After-hours emergency on-call involves one weeknight and one weekend per month, compensated through MOCAP.
We offer an APP contract with regular monthly payments. Interested candidates should be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
