Job summary

Weymouth Medical Centre in Nova Scotia is seeking a part-time family physician to join a fully equipped clinic. The position offers collaboration with a nearby Digby & Area Health Services Centre and potential inpatient and emergency coverage at Digby General Hospital.

The role emphasizes comprehensive primary care, teamwork with physicians, nurse practitioners, and the diabetes centre team, and the use of an EMR system to document patient information.

Qualifications

• All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
• All family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
• Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)

Responsibilities

• deliver comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and health states
• be accountable for appropriate workload and practice
• maintain continuity of patient care with providers within the practice and community
• coordinate care across community-based and higher-level health services
• aim for same-day or next-day access for the practice population
• collaborate with team members to meet community health needs
• provide after-hours access and emergency opportunities if interested
• participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
• utilize an EMR and record patient details in a provincially approved EMR
• prescribe and administer medications and vaccinations
• record births, deaths, and report contagious diseases per NS public health requirements
• work within bylaws and regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority

Job description

Weymouth Medical Centre is seeking a part-time family physician to work in a fully equipped clinic, including a computer system. There is an opportunity, approximately 20 minutes east, to be part of a collaborative family practice team (physicians, nurse practitioners, family practice nurse, licensed practical nurse and diabetes centre team) at the Digby & Area Health Services Centre which is located next door to the Digby General Hospital. If interested, opportunities in supporting inpatient coverage and emergency department coverage would be available at Digby General Hospital.

Responsibilities

• ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness
• be accountable for appropriate workload and practice
• continuum of patient care with health care providers within your practice and/or community
• provide care and coordination of community-based care, secondary and tertiary level heath care
• build to capacity within the first two years (new primary care providers)
• operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
• work toward same day or next day access for the practice population
• work in collaboration with other team members in the practice to best suit the community’s health needs
• work with other providers to provide after-hours access when required and emergency opportunities if interested
• participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
• utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR which is accessible to all collaborating team members
• Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations
• Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements
