About This Opportunity

The Integrated Chronic Care Services team is seeking a part-time physician to join this interdisciplinary team of health professionals in Fall River. This 0.5 FTE position provides comprehensive assessments and care planning for individuals with complex chronic conditions such as:

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
  • Environmental illnesses including Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Functional neurologic and gastrointestinal syndromes
  • Multiple chronic conditions

The ICCS model emphasizes managing chronic diseases by addressing the whole person's needs, focusing on self-management support. The team includes physicians, occupational therapists, a nurse practitioner, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, clinical therapists, and a dietitian, integrating physical, psychosocial, and environmental aspects to improve health outcomes and quality of life.

This salaried position offers approximately $10,340 per month with a competitive overhead rate. Scheduling is flexible, with regular weekly office hours to support team-based care and continuity. Physicians are expected to dedicate 70% of their time to clinical care and 30% to research activities, which are integral to the role.

The position reports to the Head of the Department of Family Practice, Central Zone, and the Director of Primary Health Care and Chronic Disease Management, Central Zone, as well as the Manager of the ICCS for administrative duties.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Examine patients, take histories, order diagnostic tests, and advise on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners.
  • Act as a patient advocate.
  • Prescribe and administer medications, treatments, inoculations, and vaccinations.
  • Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements.

Expected Hours

Permanent, Part-time, 0.5 FTE

Qualifications

  • Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  • Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) membership.
  • Experience and certifications relevant to working with this patient population are assets.
