Legal Assistant – The Riley Divorce & Family Law Firm

Are you ready to launch your legal career in a client-focused environment? The Riley Divorce & Family Law Firm is seeking a Legal Assistant to join our Lindsay office. We specialize in family law services for business owners and professionals, and we pride ourselves on delivering compassionate, supportive, and creative legal support.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist Senior Law Clerks with preparation, service and filing of legal documents for family law cases (divorce applications, affidavits, motions, agreements)
  • Assist with client intake/interview potential clients over the phone.
  • Scan and file client documents into LEAP;
  • Assist legal team in organization of financial disclosure and preparation of disclosure briefs;
  • Assist in person with file organization, scanning and document management
  • Assist Senior Counsel as needed with client-related tasks in-office, including filing, note-taking, and assistance with preparing court documents and general correspondence.
  • Organize and maintain case files and client records securely
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, court dates, and appointments, as requested by legal staff
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls, respond to client inquiries, and relay messages promptly and professionally
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with legal research and compile case-related materials
  • Prepare correspondence and update legal documents as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

What We’re Looking For

  • A recent graduate or preferably 1 year of experience as a legal assistant, ideally in family law
  • Strong understanding of Ontario family law procedures and terminology
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with legal software and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
  • Compassionate and client-focused demeanor

Education

  • Family law experience preferred
