ABOUT OUR CLIENT AND THE JOB:

Inspired by her values, my client has a thriving Family and Estate Law firm located 15 minutes north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. She started her own firm more than 12 years ago because she’s passionate about compassionately helping families navigate legal disputes during the most difficult time of their lives. That passion has led to so many referrals that she and her existing team can’t keep up with the demand.

The firm is built on doing exceptional work and getting optimal results for its clients by

  • working smarter rather than harder;
  • valuing results rather than billable hours;
  • strategically working the legal system rather than writing endless demand letters;
  • practicing ADR that values win/win/win negotiations;
  • effectively litigating should that be necessary
  • balancing work with play to fully recharge and offer their best

The offices are located on the ocean with ocean views within 2 minutes of the boardwalk, nature paths and cute restaurants.

They’re looking for a 3-5 year call family lawyer to join the team, who resonates with these values, is interested in becoming a partner within a few years, and has the following skills and abilities:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5+ years experience as a Family Lawyer managing simple through complex family law files with some Estate Dispute Resolution experience
  • A member of the B.C BAR in good standing or willing to transfer from another Province or Territory
  • Litigation experience with a strong settlement focus and expertise in ADR
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong organization and follow-up skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple law files effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand the client’s needs and perspective
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge assumptions and develop strategic solutions to achieve better client results
  • Caring with a strong desire to make things better for families
  • A life-long learner with an improvement-seeking orientation
  • Appreciates balance between work and play and the beauty of nature
  • Ability to work in the office when meeting with clients and remotely when appropriate

MORE ABOUT THE JOB:

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:

  • Meeting with a backlog of potential clients to determine if they would be a good fit for the firm through active listening, empathy and understanding of their case.
  • Project management of a broad range of complex family and estate law files, including separation agreements, division of assets, spousal maintenance, and child custody, and will disputes from initial meeting through closing of their case.
  • Building strong relationships with clients by moving them forward to the agreed-upon outcomes, keeping them informed of progress and preparing them for the next steps to ensure quality client care.
  • Case preparation to ensure clients get the outcomes they want by strategically utilizing effective ADR and legal procedures under BC Family and Estate Law.
  • Trial strategy preparation and litigation should an ADR process not be effective or possible.

WHAT YOU GET:

Our client offers a generous compensation package based on a revenue split model with extended health benefits, a generous health spending account, and moving expense assistance should the candidate need to move for the position
