Job summary

Shulman & Partners LLP in Ottawa seeks an Associate Family Lawyer with 1 to 6 years of proven experience to join our collaborative, mentorship-driven team. The role emphasizes client service, strategic case progression, and professional growth within a supportive environment.

You will be supported through our Mentorship-Based Model, with senior guidance, structured file reviews, and opportunities to advance to greater file independence. Hybrid work available after probation.

Qualifications

• 1–6 years of proven experience in family law.
• Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO).
• Strong client service, written and verbal communication, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Manage family law matters appropriate to level of experience with mentorship support.
• Apply Family Law Rules and relevant legislation to advance matters strategically.
• Conduct legal research, interpret legislation, and apply findings to support strong case strategy.
• Draft high-quality court and settlement materials (pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, settlements).
• Draft domestic contracts and agreements (separation agreements, minutes of settlement).
• Prepare and review financial documents (Financial Statements, Net Family Property statements).
• Maintain professional client communication and explain next steps and options.
• Attend mediations, arbitrations, conferences, motions, and trials as required.
• Coordinate with law clerks and staff to meet deadlines and progress files.
• Participate in the Mentorship-Based Model and implement feedback and development goals.
