Family Counsellor

Couchiching First Nation is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Counsellor to provide culturally relevant mental health services for children, youth, and families both on and off the First Nation. This full-time, permanent role focuses on delivering intervention, prevention, and support services that promote emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being through clinical counselling, cultural guidance, and family-based programming.

Reporting to the Child & Family Care Program Supervisor, the Family Counsellor will offer individual, family, and group counselling, maintain client records, submit reports, and contribute to culturally appropriate service planning and delivery. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Indigenous values and healing practices, excellent case management skills, and a deep commitment to community wellness.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Social Service Work Diploma (or related field with counselling training)
  • Experience in case management and providing clinical services to children, youth, and families
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and culturally grounded service models
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work respectfully within community protocols
  • Familiarity with Weechi It Te Win Family Services and the Child, Youth & Family Services Act
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License and clear Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Additionally, ability to speak or willingness to learn Ojibway is considered an asset

Salary commensurate with education and experience. All applicants will be subject to a Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Section Query), and Child Abuse Registry Check.
