Job summary

Muskoka Woods is seeking Activity Instructors for the Schools & Retreats team to lead a variety of activities for groups of 10–20 guests. Workdays run from 8am to 5pm, with 1–2 evening shifts weekly, August 30 to November 29, 2026.

Staff meetings and flexible coverage across areas are included. Applicants should be 18+ before contract start, bring energy and strong communication with children and youth, and be prepared to teach up to 25 activities.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to facilitate and instruct a variety of activities and manage group dynamics.
  • Must be able to lead groups of 10–20 guests.
  • 18 years or older before contract start for High Ropes Training.
  • Ability to work 8am–5pm with 1–2 evening shifts per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead guests in a range of activities including sports, adventure activities, arts, nature explorations and team-building programs.
  • Run activities for groups of 10 to 20 guests.
  • Travel with assigned group or specialize in an area based on needs.
  • Attend staff meetings; assist in other areas as needed (camp store, dish shifts, housekeeping, etc.).

Muskoka Woods is a Christian youth development organization that welcomes everyone to an experience for a lifetime. We are located on the shores of beautiful Lake Rosseau and specialize in summer camp, school trips, group retreats and leadership development for all ages. We exist to inspire youth to shape their world.

Job Description

From September to June, the Schools & Retreats team turns ordinary weeks into extraordinary adventures! Whether it’s middle schoolers zip-lining for the first time, high schoolers bonding over campfires, or adults recharging on a team retreat and enjoying the food and facilities, we create life-changing experiences for everyone who visits. Each year, we welcome over 25,000 guests - students from grades 6 to 12, corporate groups, and church retreats. This team brings energy and excitement, creating memories that last a lifetime.

Activity Instructors are responsible for leading guests in a range of awesome sports, adventure activities, arts, nature explorations, and team-building programs. They are trained in up to 25 different activities which they instruct to our guests at Muskoka Woods. A day in the life looks like running activities and programs for groups of 10 to 20 kids at a time. They will often travel with an assigned group, or specialize in one area based on the group’s needs. Work hours are typically from 8am to 5pm with 1 to 2 evening shifts each week to help run evening programs, serve snack, cover the office, assist in the Camp Store, help out with dish shifts and do occasional work projects to keep everything running smoothly!

Staff are required to attend all meetings as outlined during staff training including Cadence and Small Group.

Please note: All positions are required to work in other areas including program, washing dishes, housekeeping, grounds keeping and snow removal, and office coverage.

Skills and Attributes Required

Muskoka Woods is looking for staff whose personal values match the MW Core Values which includes having a passion for working with children and youth.

Activity instructor applicants must be able to facilitate and instruct a variety of activities as well as manage group dynamics, build relationships and create a safe yet fun activity experience. Staff must be able to manage their time well, have excellent attention to detail, and be wise in decision making. Staff must be supportive, patient, energetic and have good communication and interpersonal skills with children and youth. Previous experience in athletics and with children and youth is preferred.

Please note that Instructor applicants MUST be 18 years old before the beginning of the contract dates in order to complete the High Ropes Training.

$220.00 per week plus room and board

Contract Dates

August 30 - November 29, 2026

Essential Functions Required
  • Be able to help guests and staff in emergencies
  • Have the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of guests and/or staff
  • Have the ability to travel around camp with guests
  • Join in on activities for 6 - 8 hours a day
  • Lead both small and large group activities
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and guests both in person and on the phone
  • Participate in work projects that involve lifting and carrying 10 - 30 lbs
Additional Notes
  • All staff are required to uphold the Muskoka Woods Vision and Mission, Core Values and Aspirations, as well as all policies and procedures as outlined during our Staff Development Week held at the beginning of your contract.
  • All staff stay in shared staff accommodation.
  • All Staff are required to live on property in Rosseau, Ontario for the duration of their contract.
