The University of Calgary, Faculty of Nursing is seeking Sessional Nursing Instructors to teach undergraduate level clinical courses for the Fall Semester 2025, in the Bachelor of Nursing (BN) program as follows:

FALL SEMESTER (September 2 - December 5, 2025)

TERM 7 - NURS 589 (Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices V): Older Adult (med/surg), Oncology, and Perinatal
Schedule:

• Perinatal: Off-site clinical Thursday & Friday, On-campus Lab Tuesday 1300-1600
• Oncology: Off-site clinical Thursday & Friday, On-campus Lab Tuesday 1300-1600
• Older Adult: Off-site clinical Thursday & Friday, On-campus Lab Tuesday 1300-1600

We are seeking applicants with nursing practice in acute and chronic care (medical/surgical), OR oncology (adult or pediatric), OR perinatal environments, particularly those with previous nursing education practice experience. Practice education takes place both on and off campus. Scheduling varies and may include a combination of days and evening shifts, Monday through Friday. Successful applicants are required to be available for the entire duration of term. Orientation takes place the week prior to term.

Sessional Instructors are provided with exceptional orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. The amount of remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B. Teaching Responsibilities:

• Facilitate low to high-fidelity simulation activities within the Clinical Simulation Learning Centre
• Work effectively with small groups of students on-campus or in off campus settings in acute and chronic medical/surgical settings, oncology settings, or perinatal settings
• Participate in team meetings related to the practice course and faculty governance
• Participate in student assessment and evaluations on and off campus
• Seek excellence in teaching by applying various teaching strategies and working with colleagues
• Encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence informed practice

Qualifications:
Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Candidates with BN/BScN preparation and above will be considered.

Applied Experience:

• Current practice experience related to semester focus
• Broad experience across a variety of areas
• Experience in clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of students

Enhanced Abilities:

• Application of adult teaching/learning principles
• Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation
• Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals
• Teamwork and leadership skills
• Evaluation and promotions of student problem solving and critical thinking
• Ability to critique student performance and provide meaningful feedback
• Prioritizing and meeting competing demands/requirements of varied settings
• Computer skills in word processing, email and internet access
