Position Summary

BCIT’s School of Transportation is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Faculty, Heavy Duty Commercial Transport Technician to join the Heavy Equipment Group at our campus located on Annacis Island in Delta to deliver training in our apprenticeship and foundation programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

These full-time positions include instructional responsibilities such as: teaching provincial curriculum; short-term coverage for Faculty release; preparing and presenting classroom lectures, course delivery and assessment materials; providing practical demonstrations; and working collaboratively within our heavy equipment team and with the Department Heads. The program curriculum includes the instruction of disassembly, inspection, overhaul, servicing and reassembly of many types of off-road heavy duty equipment and commercial trucks. This ranges from class 8 semi tractors and transport trailers through to bulldozers, front end loaders, skid steers and excavators.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • BC Trades Qualification with Inter-Provincial Red Seal in Heavy Duty Mechanics or Commercial Transport Mechanics.
  • BC Certificate of Apprenticeship in Heavy Duty Mechanics or Commercial Transport Mechanics.
  • A minimum of five years’ recent journeyperson industry experience (more preferred).
  • Ability to Instruct the full scope of heavy duty/commercial transport curriculum including tracks, undercarriage and transport trailers.
  • Documented experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy duty or off-road equipment.
  • Documented experience in the repair and maintenance of commercial transport trucks and trailers.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint: ability to manage files located on a database.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is an asset.
  • Documented experience working as an Instructor in a post-secondary or industrial setting within a team environment is an asset.

Salary Range

Salary Range $98,324 - $115,805 per annum.
