Job summary

The Government of Saskatchewan, Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, seeks a Facility Youth Worker for Paul Dojack Youth Facility in Regina to support youth aged 12 to 17 with assessment, counselling, program delivery, and case management.

You will ensure safety and custody, apply legislation and policies, work with diverse youth, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams; paid induction training follows a 11-week program with ongoing development and benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of adolescent development and behaviour to support positive change.
• Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
• First Aid and CPR/AED certificate with no less than 12 months remaining before expiration.
• Ability to verbally and in writing present clear, concise, timely, and accurate information.
• Critical thinking skills to exercise sound judgment, solve problems, and apply appropriate interventions.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
• Collaborative and supportive team player.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, developmental programming, care, and custody for youth aged 12 to 17 under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
• Manage a caseload of youth in secure, open, or remand custody settings.
• Counsel youth to address criminogenic factors and reduce the risk of reoffending.
• Identify and respond to potential safety risks affecting clients, staff, and the community.
• De-escalate crisis situations with professionalism and composure.
• Ensure the safety, security, supervision, and overall management of youth in custody.
• Serve as a positive role model to support youth rehabilitation and development.

Paul Dojack Youth Facility is hiring and invites you to join our team!

Facility Youth Workersare professionals who work directly with youth offenders aged 12 to 17, holding them accountable and supporting positive change in their lives, while maintaining the safe and secure operation of the facility.

As a Facility Youth Worker, You Will

• Be responsible for the safety and security of youth offenders in various correctional settings;
• Provide assessment, counselling, program delivery, and case management;
• Work closely with youthwho may have intergenerational trauma, special needs, gender differences, and various cultural and spiritual beliefs;
• Accurately interpret and apply legislation, policy, and procedures;
• Apply a collaborative approach that promotes interdisciplinary teamwork;
• Continuously assess situational factors and evaluate the level of risk, to make sound and appropriate decisions; and
• Prevent, respond to, and resolve incidents, using the safest and most reasonable intervention strategies.

Ideal Candidate

As Our Successful Candidate, You Will Have

• A valid First Aid and CPR/AED certificate with no less than 12 months remaining before expiration is required prior to the ITP start date;

Typically, the requirements for success in this position are completion of a High School diploma and/or experience/education in the social sciences, correctional services, or similar discipline.

Technical Knowledge And Skills

The COPAT requirement for employment has been replaced by a comprehensive medical evaluation completed by a licensed medical practitioner.
