Job summary

YMCA Laurier Brantford Family YMCA is hiring a Facility Services Manager to lead operations, oversee asset management, and ensure safe, efficient facility performance at the Laurier Brantford Family YMCA. The role reports to the General Manager and collaborates across departments to deliver YMCA standards and enhance member experiences.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in building operations, safety, and project management, with five years’ experience and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

  • Two-year post-secondary education in Building Operations or related field.
  • Minimum five years in facility maintenance or cleaning.
  • Experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or pool management.
  • Project and budget management experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and asset systems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and make quick decisions.
  • Flexible to work evenings/weekends/on-call.
  • Certified in IntermediateFirstAid and CPR-C.

The Facility Services Manager is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Laurier Brantford Family YMCA. This position provides comprehensive oversight of facility maintenance, housekeeping operations, asset management, contractor relationships, regulatory compliance, preventative maintenance programs, and facility safety initiatives. Reporting directly to the General Manager, Laurier Brantford Family YMCA, with indirect reporting to the General Manager, Facility Assets, the Facility Services Manager plays a key leadership role in delivering YMCA standards of service excellence, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting a high‑quality member experience.

What You'll Do
  • Facility Operations & Asset Management: Provide hands‑on leadership to ensure YMCA facilities are safe, clean, well‑maintained, and operating efficiently. Oversee the maintenance of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety and pool systems, while developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs that minimize downtime, optimize asset performance, and support long‑term facility sustainability.
  • Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, YMCA policies, and industry standards, including Occupational Health & Safety, WHMIS, TSSA, Life Safety, and Pool Operations requirements. Coordinate inspections, maintain compliance documentation, and support emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Budgeting, Procurement & Administration: Manage departmental budgets, procurement activities, contractor relationships, and facility projects. Monitor expenditures, identify operational efficiencies, and support capital planning and maintenance priorities.
  • Service Excellence & Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related matters, building positive relationships with members, staff, volunteers, contractors, and community partners while ensuring YMCA service standards are consistently achieved.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead, coach, and support facility staff by providing day‑to‑day operational guidance and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and service excellence. Support recruitment, scheduling, performance management, and staff development.
What You'll Bring
  • Two-year post‑secondary education in Building Operations, Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of facility maintenance and/or cleaning experience, with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: HVAC and Building Operations Systems, electrical systems, plumbing, construction, pool management, environmental and energy efficiency, or general contracting.
  • Demonstrated project management and budget management experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, members, vendors, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and asset management software and systems.
  • Knowledge of health & safety legislation, regulatory compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, Manager‑on‑Duty shifts, and participate in an on‑call rotation.
  • Certified in IntermediateFirstAid (formerly known as Standard First Aid) and CPR‑C.
