The Job You Will Perform

International Paper’s Grande Prairie Global Cellulose Fibers Mill is seeking a Facility Preservation Engineer. Reporting to the Maintenance Reliability Leader, this role is responsible for maintaining and protecting the company's assets to ensure process reliability, personnel safety, and environmental protection. The candidate should have knowledge of industrial reliability improvement methods, programs, processes, and technologies.

Key Functions
  • Design, assist, coordinate, and complete facility design work requests.
  • Comply with safety standards and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to engineering standards.
  • Provide technical support for engineering projects.
  • Ensure control documents are current and accessible; familiar with isometrics and process flow diagrams.
  • Maintain mechanical standards for rotating equipment, piping, pressure vessels, and tanks.
  • Assist with regulatory applications and standards compliance.
  • Ensure mill performance aligns with IP policies, procedures, specifications, and standards, including ABSA compliance.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams on various infrastructure and equipment including tanks, pressure vessels, HVAC, piping, insulation, and more.
  • Learn the Capital Budget Process to support project development and installation.
  • Mentor technical graduates.
  • Assist EHS with waste & water treatment plant and solid waste assets.
  • Help team members understand facility preservation plans, inspections, repairs, and document control.
Key Accountabilities
  • Ensure mill performance meets IP policies and standards.
  • Oversee and collaborate on infrastructure and equipment maintenance.
  • Support project development within the capital budget process.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Assist with maintenance of waste water and solid waste facilities.
The Skills You Will Bring
  • B.S. or RET (PLEng) in Civil Engineering.
  • 8-10 years of experience in industrial, manufacturing, or maintenance environments.
  • Experience in analysis, design, fabrication, installation, and repair of structures.
  • Knowledge of piping systems, soil properties, and building systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, finite element analysis, and relevant codes.
  • Civil Engineering APEGA membership or ability to obtain it.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong technical competence and attention to detail.
