The Job You Will Perform:

International Paper’s Grande Prairie Global Cellulose Fibers Mill is seeking a Facility Preservation Engineer. Reporting to the Maintenance Reliability Leader, this role is responsible for maintaining and protecting assets to ensure manufacturing reliability, personnel safety, and environmental protection. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of industrial reliability improvement methods, programs, processes, and technologies.

Key Functions:

  1. Designs, plans, assists, coordinates, and completes facility design work requests.
  2. Ensures compliance with all safety standards and legal requirements.
  3. Provides technical support for engineering projects.
  4. Maintains current control documents, including isometrics and process flow diagrams.
  5. Ensures mechanical standards are current and available for rotating equipment, piping, pressure vessels, and tanks.
  6. Assists with regulatory applications and standards compliance.
  7. Ensures mill performance aligns with IP policies, procedures, specifications, and standards, including ABSA compliance.
  8. Provides coaching and mentoring to junior engineers.
  9. Collaborates with maintenance and operations teams on various infrastructure and equipment including tanks, pressure vessels, HVAC, piping, insulation, and more.
  10. Supports the development and installation of capital projects.
  11. Mentors less experienced technical staff.
  12. Assists Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) in maintaining waste and water treatment assets.
  13. Helps team members understand facility preservation plans and work requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure mill performance meets IP policies and standards.
  • Oversee infrastructure and equipment maintenance and upgrades.
  • Support capital project development.
  • Assist EHS with waste and water treatment maintenance.

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • B.S. or RET (PLEng) in Civil Engineering.
  • 8-10 years’ experience in industrial, manufacturing, or maintenance environments.
  • Experience in analysis, design, fabrication, installation, and repair of structures and piping.
  • Knowledge of soil properties, building systems, AutoCAD, finite element analysis, and relevant codes.
  • Membership in APEGA or ability to obtain it.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SAP.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong technical competence and attention to detail.
