Job summary

SECURE is seeking a Facility Operator for the South Grande Prairie Full-Service Terminal in Alberta, south of Grande Prairie. This role involves decontamination, disposal of Non-NORM/NORM waste, and day-to-day facility operations with strong customer service and safety focus.

The position requires 1–3 years of relevant experience, high safety standards, and the ability to work 12-hour shifts on a 7-on/7-off rotation. Training in boilers and waste treatment is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of operational waste processing or oil treating experience is an asset.
• Current safety tickets (H2S Alive, First Aid Level One C, Confined Space Entry, TDG, WHMIS).
• Strong communication and customer service skills for daily interactions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operation of the facility.
• Unload trucks and manage oil emulsion water & vac trucks.
• Load water and oil trucks with compliance to regulations.
• Assist in waste processing, solids treatment, and safe handling of NORM materials.
• Ensure compliance with HSMS and environmental protection programs.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the plant and equipment.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

The South Grande Prairie Facility accepts oilfield waste and NORM-impacted oilfield waste. The Facility Operator will play a crucial role in assisting with the decontamination and disposal of both Non-NORM and NORM waste. This position is responsible for the safe, day-to-day, and customer service–oriented operations of waste treatment. The Operator will actively support standard operating procedures, hazard assessments, safety programs, and environmental protection initiatives. Regular interaction with customers is required, so strong communication skills and a high level of customer service are essential.

This position is located south of Grande Prairie, AB.

Work Environment

This position is a 12-hour shift with 7 days on and 7 days off, alternating between days and nights located at our South Grande Prairie Full-Service Terminal.

A Day in The Life

• Responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operation of the facility
• Responsible for truck unloading, oil emulsion and water & vac trucks.
• Loading water and oil trucks while ensuring compliance with all classification requirements in accordance with applicable governance regulations.
• Participating in waste processing, waste and mud tank operation, shaker & centrifuge operations and solids treating
• Decontaminating and handling NORM impacted pipe in accordance with safety and environmental regulations
• Conducting proper cleaning, segregation, and disposal of NORM-impacted materials
• Responsible and accountable for the receipt, terminal storage and transportation of crude oil while adhering to Measurement & Crude Oil Quality compliance
• Conducting treatment of solids on the waste pad
• Conducting boiler operations, testing and steam system operations
• Ensuring that all corporate compliance programs are adhered to
• Submitting truck tickets summary, daily plant checklists, and balance and transfers to the office
• Participates in the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS)
• Waste plant operation (ensuring solids processing is meeting or exceeding landfill criteria and solids testing)
• General maintenance, ensure that the plant is kept clean and safe

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of 1-3 years operational experience in waste processing and oil treating or water injection is an asset
• Specialty training in boilers, treaters, pumps (all), repairs, shaker/centrifuge and loader is considered an asset
• Proven ability to demonstrate strong methods regarding all processes in the plant, including; safety operations, oil treating & blending, waste processing and water disposal
• Current and valid safety tickets, including H2S Alive, First Aid Level One C, Confined Space Entry, WHMIS and TDG
• A strong attention to detail, communication skills with the ability to work long hours in a mentally and physically demanding work environment
• Must be able to document their work, perform and manage cross shift communication and ensure strategic communication with multiple stakeholders
• Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate excellent decision-making skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues
• Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and safe work practices
• A valid and acceptable Driver’s license and successful completion of Pre-employment testing
